Professional Engineer

FYRA Engineering ( is a fast-growing water resources consulting firm that specializes in river and lake restoration, dam rehabilitation and design, levee certification and design, and watershed and stormwater management. We are seeking a detail-oriented, experienced, and organized engineer to join our growing team in our Des Moines, Iowa office.


We are currently seeking a licensed professional civil/environmental engineer with a minimum of 5 years of experience to assist with our water resources projects, which include modeling, design and field work. Modeling work may include hydrologic, hydraulic, nutrient mass balance, and water quality modeling. Design work may include development of planning reports or technical memorandums, data analysis, conceptual designs, and construction plans and specifications. Field work may include site investigations, data collection, water sampling/monitoring, surveying, and construction observation. The split between office and field work will vary on a project-by-project basis. The ideal applicant should be team-oriented, communicate well with clients, and have experience with design and plan development on water resources projects. Candidate should be able to manage project budgets and client needs, assist with the preparation of project proposals, develop client relationships and tackle complex issues. Must be reliable and capable of leading other engineers in project and plan development.

Job Experience Requirements:

A minimum of five years of experience is desired, and experience with water resources-related projects (lakes, rivers/streams, dams, levees, stormwater work) is preferred. Candidate must be a registered professional engineer. Familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D, GIS software, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM, other modeling software, construction services, and/or surveying will be viewed favorably.

Degree Requirements:

Bachelors of Science in engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university. Water resources or environmental emphasis preferred.

Additional Requirements:

This position requires adequate written and oral skills in the English language, working knowledge of computers, and familiarity with relevant software. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and car insurance; occasional use of personal vehicles may be required.
